SUNDAYS
FAITH FORMATION FOR ADULTS AT AMITY UMC – SPRING 2013
Amity Explorers - The Explorers Sunday School Class invites you to Classroom 6 on Sundays from 10 to 10:45 am. Bring your breakfast snack and coffee with you. We choose topics according to the timely events going on in the world and examine and discuss how we as committed United Methodist Christians can live out our daily lives in ways that honor God calls. We are Bible based and want to answer God’s call as we experience it. We begin and end with worship and prayer.
Our classes encompass the wide range of messages and actions in today’s world. We are “explorers” in every sense of the word, hungry about new information about belief systems, world events, exotic places, and religious mysteries; asking serious questions about the Bible and our faith as United Methodist Christians. What we believe does invite investigation.
John Wesley taught us that Methodism incorporates the following: Scripture, Tradition, Experience, and Reason. This is what we try to use as the basis for our classroom studies. Wesley also asked us to observe three things as Methodists: First: By doing no harm, by avoiding evil of every kind. Second: By doing good of every possible sort, and as far as possible, to all. 2. By attending upon all the ordinances of God. We invite you to come and join us – especially those who are new to the faith. The class is taught by the Rev. Nancy Sturdivant and others.
Adult Bible Studies - Group meets each Sunday morning from 9:45 – 10:40am in Room #8. This spring, our writers Ellsworth Kalas and Von Unruh help us trace the theological theme of hope in the Hebrew and Christian Scriptures. The three units are: The Kingdom of God, looking at the more apocalyptic view of hope from Daniel; Resurrection Hope, drawing from Luke, Acts, and 1 and 2 Thessalonians; and A Call to Living Holy, finding hope amidst suffering taken from 1 and 2 Peter.
