Amity

Minister of Music, Chris Dodson received his master's in music from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY in 2005.  He has served in several Baptist and Methodist churches, most recently as part-time pianist at Millbrook Baptist Church in Raleigh.  He was interested in the position at Amity in order to serve as both Director of Music and Choir Director.

Chris’s Cover Letter  

            My name is Chris Dodson and I am interested in applying for the position of Director of Music at Amity United Methodist Church.

            I have conducted adult choirs of various sizes, from 10 – 40 voices and of varying level of ability.  I have taught basic choral concepts to beginning choirs and have directed more advanced works with vocalists in a college setting.  I have also directed men’s choir and have worked with children’s and youth choirs

            I have led both traditional and contemporary worship services.  I have acted as formal choir director, led congregation singing, and performed piano solos for traditional worship services.  I have acted as worship leader with a praise band that have included multiple guitars, keyboard, drums, instrumental soloists, vocalists and background choir.

       I have used drama in additional to vocalists and instrumentalists for creative seasonal presentations.  The presentations included lighting, costumes, and sets, and included the use of adult, youth, and children volunteers. 

             As an instrumentalist, I have accompanied solos and vocal ensembles on the piano, as well as have lead congregational singing from the keyboard.  I have directed and played with brass and wind ensembles in worship services.  I have also arranged instrumental and vocal selections for special church services.  I have minimal experience on the organ, though I am growing in this skill.
